This Monday (9/6/10) we will be having our monthly feedback class from 8-9 at the power plant!  The class will begin with a series of three minute dances with everyone in the class, including the instructors who will be in the rotation.  The instructors will provide students with personalized feedback after dancing with them.  Students will then have the opportunity to work on their feedback while dancing with everyone else in the class.  They may also ask other students for feedback if they wish (no unsolicited feedback will be allowed!).  Following this portion of the class the instructors will step out of the rotation and offer feedback to students as observers.

Get hyped because it’s time to learn a little choreography at Jazz Attack! Haggai, the master of fun solo jazz and charleston moves, is teaching choreography he learned at the famed Herrang dance camp! The series is open to all levels. Class begins promptly at 8pm and and at 9pm, Carsie Blanton will start us off with some sweet music followed by Graham Hunter  :).

This week’s open class will be on micro movement as a layer to add on top of other moves. That’s right, you don’t have to stand still every time you want to do microblues! Erin and Jon will be going over a few different moves for you to play with, as well as how to enliven the rest of your dancing with microblues, in all its joyful melty-ness.

This is going to be an open class, so it’ll be taught at an intermediate level, but will also be appropriate for anyone who has taken 12 or more hours of blues dancing classes.

LaB will be throwing Rittenhop again this week to help kick off the Lindy Hop Crash Course afterward!
So bring your friends who have yet to become addicted to this thing we all share and love so much so they can see how amazing and fun it is BEFORE going to attend the crash course (at the Ethical Society) and learning how to begin their dancing as a lindy hopper!

Rittenhop will begin at Noon and go til 2pm. The Crash Course will follow Rittenhop…so throw on your favorite pair of cement friendly flats and come hop to the boogie with us!

It’s a new month and a new Jazz Attack ready to satisfy all  your Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Charleston needs! Get ready because it’s time to get your “Bal on!” Bring those heels, ladies! A new beginner Balboa series is starting this week with Nelle and Nirav. This will be a 4-week progressive series covering the basics of Balboa dancing.

Class begins at 8pm every Thursday for the month of August.

The cost is $5 (which also includes admission to the dance 9-Midnight).

Attackers of Jazz!

Nelle and Kerry are teaching week two of two in their mini “ambi-dancetrous” series. Are you already a little bit proficient at leading a swing out if you’re usually a follower, or following a swing out if you’re usually a leader? Awesome….then even if you missed last week you should come. 8PM.

Our local DJs will give you plenty of practice tunes for your new skills at 9PM. $5 for dance or dance & lesson.

Upstairs Dan Repsch & Jenny Sowden will be teaching a class on Circular vs Linear Momentum:
Most moves/phrases have circular or linear momentum. We will discover the difference between the two and take three separate examples and create a circular version and a linear version of the same move/phrase. Promoting linear to be inspired by circular and vise versa.
Downstairs: Novice Lindy hop with Erin & Jon. They’ll be teaching 6-count outside patterns!

Since it’s the last Monday of the month, we’ll be holding two classes. The open class will be on hearing and responding to different styles of blues music, with Carsie and Jon. The invitational class will be taught by Philly’s Dan Repsch and guest instructor Jenny Sowden from New York! Here’s the description:

Jenny and Dan have ridiculously fun dances by role-playing characters they create within a song. In Monday’s class we’ll talk about a few of the ones that Jenny and Dan commonly use, and simple ways to create rich characters of your own to dance out. It’ll be a loose but challenging hour where imagination – rather than technique – will be the focus.

After class from 8-9pm comes 3 hours of dancing to music DJd by Carsie and Dan. See you there!

Hello to all you lovers of dancing outside on Sunday!

Due to the incredibly hot summer, events here,  and people traveling a lot this summer we have not had many Rittenhops thus far. It is looking like this may be the case in the near future as well.

So unless you receive an email (email the seth@lindyandblues.com to get on the list) stating that Rittenhop is ON for that week you can assume that there will be no Rittenhop. Also, please check back to this board as a more reliable source of info on Rittenhop than email as the email system sometimes takes a while to process.

So again, Rittenhop is now on a “not happening” default for the hot summer months. If the  weather looks danceable then we will send out an email and update the forum to reflect that.

Hopefully we will have some cooler days coming up and can get out and dance in Rittenhouse Square again!!!
