Hi Bluesers,
Tonight at PhB, Jon and I will be teaching an open class (appropriate for beginner to advanced students) on “Social Blues”: How to have a comfortable, connected, enjoyable dance with anybody at any level. After the class, prepare to get down to the DJ stylings of Carsie and Dan.
STARTING NEXT WEEK, we’ll be changing the class format at PhB (yet again). We will describe the details at the dance tonight, but if you’re interested, details are below.
We are committed to improving and expanding the blues dance community in Philadelphia, while encouraging students to expand their knowledge and enjoyment of the dance in a friendly, open, enthusiastic environment. We are always working to find more effective ways to achieve this. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about PhB, please don’t hesitate to speak to an organizer directly (Carsie, Jon, Jesse, Erin and Mike the Girl), or email us: powerhouse@lindyandblues.com.
Thanks and best,
Carsie
New format for FEEDBACK CLASSES:
On the first Monday of each month, we will have a Feedback Class. This will be different from the past audition classes in several ways.
1) Rather than taking a class from teachers, this will be one big private lesson. Our teachers will be in the class rotation, and will dance with each student and give one piece of feedback. When we rotate, each student will work on that piece of feedback as they dance with the other students.
2) Rather than receiving written feedback in an email, we will ask each student to take notes on the feedback they receive in the class. After the class, you will be notified via email whether we feel the int/adv classes are appropriate for you.
3) If you have any questions about your level, your feedback, or how to improve, we request that you ask the teachers directly after the class or via email.
New format for WEEKLY CLASSES:
1) Int/Adv classes will be series classes, three or four weeks long (the remainder of each month, following the feedback class), spent on one topic. Classes will be on one topic, but may be taught by multiple teachers. Students will be required to register and pay for a given series in advance.
2) Open classes will be on a new topic each week, and will be appropriate for all levels (we will recommend that int/adv student who are unable to attend all the classes in a series attend open classes instead).
