Upstairs Dan Repsch & Jenny Sowden will be teaching a class on Circular vs Linear Momentum:
Most moves/phrases have circular or linear momentum. We will discover the difference between the two and take three separate examples and create a circular version and a linear version of the same move/phrase. Promoting linear to be inspired by circular and vise versa.
Downstairs: Novice Lindy hop with Erin & Jon. They’ll be teaching 6-count outside patterns!

Oh no! We made a big mistake this week. The Ethical Society Building was double booked. They told us all about it but since we’re crazy busy bringing you tons of dancing all the time, we forgot to tell you. Thanks to Erin’s amazing resourcefulness, we’ll be holding LaB at the Church of the Holy Trinity right on the NW corner of Rittenhouse Sq. The full address is 1904 Walnut St, 19103.

We’ll have a sign on the door of the Ethical Society, just in case you forget.

A note to Stuart’s Big Apple class:
Bring your non-dancing shoes because this week’s lesson will take place in Rittenhouse Square Park! Meet Stu in the center of the square at 8pm sharp, UNLESS IT RAINS. If it rains, we’ll all throw up our hands and go to Capogiro. (Don’t worry, if we have to cancel, the series will continue for an extra week.)

As usual, we’ll have a drop-in novice class at 8PM. This week, Jon & Mike are teaching the blues.

Jesse & Mike will be DJing the tunes.

Next week (May 25th), we’ll be back to our regularly schedule mayhem at the Ethical Society Building.

This week will be vocabulary and combinations in the Big Apple including Rocks, Shish-ka-boom-ba, Spank the Baby, Boogie Forward, Shorty George, Apple Jacks, Stomp Off, Half Break, TBA break, Fall-off-the-log… We’ll start practicing the more challenging combinations of the choreographed Big Apple, but we won’t start the full sequential choreography till Week 3.

Additionally, we will discuss (and practice!) ways to layer these skills on top of a traditional lead/follow dynamic. Stay tuned for week 3, when we will talk about the role of the music
in all of this.

Conversational Skills and Turn-Taking
Learn to have a respectful 2-way dance conversation. We will practice
listening to our partners, responding to and riffing on what they are

It is the start of a new month and we have a ton of exciting things for you!

At 8PM we have an EXTRAORDINARY opportunity for you! Calico Goodrich and Solomon Douglas have come from faraway Seattle to teach you the joy and wonder of the tuck turn! Go upstairs to take their class:
The Glory of the Tuck Turn
The tuck turn is the very pinnacle of human achievement (in Calico’s opinion). It is a beautifully complex move that can be studied indefinitely. We will use the tuck turn to explore both inward and outward connections.

This class is a beginner/intermediate class, so that means you’ll need to have take 4-6 hours of novice classes or had one private lesson in order to take it.

Other than that, downstairs at 8PM we have a novice blues class. Upstairs at 9PM we’ll be starting the blues novice series. Want to create a firm foundation in blues dancing? Start with this month long series.

Downstairs at 9PM the music will start and the dancing will be great!
