Teacher: Rachel Stirling and Tim O’Neill
Level: Intermediate Plus
Description: There’s something beautiful and entrancing about the simplicity and cadence of country blues, which Phil Wiggins and Ian Walters will demonstrate at the Saturday main dance. Delta blues, as well as Piedmont and Hill Country blues, can be challenging to dance to when there’s often minimal instrumentation and no drum beat. This class will show you how to get lost in the steady groove of the music and embrace simplicity, subtlety, and repetition in solo and partnered movement.
Teacher: Kelsy Stone and Philippe Wilson
Level: Advanced + Masters
Description: Whoosh! Ping! Zam! Ever wondered where exactly that turn came from? This class will build upon your prior knowledge of Savoy Walk to break down how turns and tricks exist outside of the primary rhythmic strucutre of the dance. We’ll cover the aesthetic for the dance and what dictates musical choices throughout the dance.
Teacher: Mike Legenthal and Dan Legenthal
Level: All Levels
Description: Do you know what a shuffle is, or what piedmont blues sounds like? We’re going to talk about regional kinds of blues music, different rhythms used in blues music, and what that kinds of dance you can do to suit each type. This is a good I-just-want-to-dance intro to Blues music!
Teacher: Jenny Sowden and Dan Repsch
Level: Begintermediate
Description: “Commit to the idea, compose an interesting dance and amp up your creativity. All in one? Yes. We will find fun ways to come up with themes in your dance and then how to discover the next one, possibly inspired by your partner. This is a great way to discover new movements, re-imagine the movements you have and make a memorable fun dance in the meantime. ”

Description: It’s all too easy to get carried away with the wealth of interesting things happening in the music and end up just dancing to the accents in a song, especially in competitions. This class will push you to really hone in on the groove of the song and express it continuously. Then the real challenge will be hitting the musical accents without breaking the groove.
