Euterpe, The Muse of Music

Live Music

LaB House Band

Featuring Carol Moog on harmonica and Garry Cogdell on guitar and vocals, this blues powerhouse has been pleasing LaB dancers on a regular basis for more than a year. Their soulful sound will make you want to move and bring you to your bluesin’ knees. Check out a sample of their music here.

Gordon Webster and his band

Gordon WebsterWe love Gordon Webster. He is the be all and end all of what we think is great, danceable music. We try to have him at LaB events as often as possible. Check out his website feeltheblues.com. We think it sounds great, but not half as great as it sounds live.

Recorded Music

Heather Adams (Knoxville, TN)

Heather AdamsHeather went to her first blues concert when she was still a few months shy of birth, and grew up listening to her mother’s fantastic record collection. Her DJ career began accidentally when a friend asked Heather to spin at a party, despite the fact that she had never intended to become a DJ. That gig led to several more, and now she is fortunate enough to be able to travel around the country playing the music that she loves for her friends and fellow dancers.

Mike Marcotte (Washington, DC)

Mike MarcotteMike Marcotte has been DJing all sorts of things in the Washington DC area for the better part of seven years. From the house DJ at K2 Dance Studio, where you never know what you’ll hear next, to putting together Sunday Blues at Glen Echo with his partner Donna Barker. Together with Donna and Rachel Stirling, he has helped put together several Capital Blues events helping to bring a better blues scene to the nation’s capital.

You’re likely to hear anything from old Sidney Bechet, to Big Mama Thorton, to much more modern music depending on the mood of the crowd. There’s a long list of events for which Mike has spun blues or swing tunes. For the past two years he was a head DJ at ALHC. Blues weekends include STLBX, MezzJelly, Dirt Cheap Blues, Capital Blues events, amongst many a latenight and afterparty. And lindy exchanges range from DC (every year), Virginia Beach, Philly, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, to New Years Eve at York.

Bill Speidel (Virginia Beach, VA)

Bill SpeidelDJ Bill Speidel cut his blues teeth listening to solo bluesmen in seedy bars and on subway platforms in Manhattan’s lower east side. Long a fan of raw, acoustic blues, for almost 20 years Bill didn’t give a rat’s ass whether you could dance to it; just as long as it gave you that grimacing “Joe Cocker Blues Face” deep down in the roots of your soul.

Like a slow train coming, Bill has been steadily challenging and inspiring dancers throughout the east coast by slipping piano-based, Piedmont, Delta, and other traditional blue forms onto the dance floor alongside their steroid pumping Twelve-Bar Chicago cousin.
