Blues Muse: October 16th-18th 2009
A follow-focused workshop weekend to inspire and amuse.
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
What makes a blues dance magical? A great song, an inspiring follow, and a receptive lead. Blues Muse is a workshop weekend dedicated to bringing out the muse in every follow, and teaching leads to appreciate and collaborate with their partner.
To achieve these goals, we’ve invited four renowned Muses: Mike Legett (Philadelphia), Karissa Lightsmith (Portland, OR), Abby Kunnecke (Portland, OR) and Carsie Blanton (Philadelphia).
This weekend includes two full days of instruction, a blues Jack & Jill competition, special performances, and three nights of social dancing to DJs and the Ursula Ricks Project, complete with late-night dances.
Our Muses are known primarily as social dancers for their impeccable following, their gorgeous solo movement, and their inspired musical contributions to every dance. Over the course of the weekend, Muses will be teaching solo and partnered classes on subjects such as Active Following, Blues Aesthetic, and Solo Musicality. Attendants will choose from Beginner/Intermediate, Intermediate/Advanced, and Masters’ tracks.
Guest teachers include Julie Brown (Boston, MA) and Reuel Reis (Nashville, TN).
Leads are more than welcome. In fact, this year we will be offering as many classes for leads as for follows! Reuel will be offering several lead-only classes on topics such as 'Dude Movement' and 'Creating Space,' and Stuart Collins & Jesse Young (both Philadelphia) will teach the sequel to the Sausage Strut.
