Blues Muse (October 22-24, 2010)
A follow-focused workshop weekend to inspire and amuse.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

What makes a blues dance magical? A great song, an inspiring follow, and a receptive lead. Blues Muse is a workshop weekend dedicated to bringing out the muse in every follow, and teaching leads to appreciate and collaborate with their partner.

To achieve these goals, we’ve invited four blues couples who are renowned for their inspiring teaching, social dancing, and collaborative partnerships: Carsie Blanton and Jon Darvill (Philadelphia, PA), Julie Brown and Paul Mandel (Boston, MA), Campbell Miller and Chris Mayer, and Mike Legett and Reuel Reis (Philadelphia, PA and New Orleans, LA).

This weekend includes two full days of instruction, a blues Jack & Jill competition, special performances, and three nights of social dancing to nationally hailed blues DJs, complete with late-night dances.

Our Muses are known primarily as social dancers for their impeccable following, their gorgeous solo movement, and their inspired musical contributions to every dance. Our Dude Muses are known for their outstandingly clear, precise connection quality, their masculine movement, and their ability to attend to and be inspired by their follow. Over the course of the weekend, instructors will be teaching solo and partnered classes on subjects such as “Preceision and Clarity”, “Call and Response”, and “How to be a Ninja”. Attendants will choose from Beginner/Intermediate, Intermediate/Advanced, and Masters’ tracks (masters track students will be selected by audition).

Leaders are more than welcome! In fact, we will be offering as much instruction for leads as for follows. Not the least of which, Stuart Collins and Jesse Young (both from Philadelphia) will be teaching the 3rd edition of the Sausage Strut.
