Blues Muse (October 14-16, 2011)
A follow-focused workshop weekend to inspire and amuse.
What makes a blues dance magical? A great song, an inspiring follow, and a receptive lead. Blues Muse is a workshop weekend dedicated to bringing out the muse in every follow, and teaching leads to appreciate and collaborate with their partner.
To achieve these goals, we’ve invited four blues muses who are renowned for their inspiring teaching, social dancing, and collaborative partnerships: Mike Legett (assisted by Reuel Reis), Julie Brown (assisted by Shawn Hershey) , Campbell Miller (assisted by Chris Mayer) , and Meghan Lisi (assisted by Ruth Hoffman) .
In addition to classes about creativity and collaboration in partnered dancing, our Muses and dudes will offer solo classes for all levels and dance roles focused on blues vocabulary, musicality, and masculine/feminine movement. This weekend includes two full days of instruction, a blues Jack & Jill competition, special performances, and three nights of social dancing to nationally hailed blues DJs, complete with late-night dances.
Our Muses are known primarily as social dancers for their impeccable following, their gorgeous solo movement, and their inspired musical contributions to every dance. Blues Muse attendees will be placed (by audition) into one of three tracks: Beginner, Intermediate, or advanced. A small number of students will be selected to attend our two additional Masters’ classes.
Although Blues Muse is focused on inspired and inspiring following, leaders are more than welcome! In fact, we will be offering as much instruction on partnered and solo blues for leaders as for followers. Not the least of which will be the fourth generation of the Blues Muse leads vs. follows duel (see below!), choreographed and taught this year by Mike Legett and Reuel Reis.
