Dance Every Tuesday Night ($5)
LaB is a weekly lindy hop and blues dance practicum held in west Philadelphia. Every Tuesday night, we provide a free group lesson (no partner necessary) in both dance forms, followed by a two hour practicum including social dancing to swing and blues music.
We have a LaB full of both new beginnings and woeful endings. As we have the first Tuesday LaB of 2009, we will also have our last regular dance at Take the Lead Studio. Come out and say goodbye to our home for the last two years.
This week’s lessons will be geared towards preparing for the workshops this weekend. We’ll be doing beginner and intermediate lessons in both Lindy and blues dancing. If you need to brush up on anything, whether it’s to show off for all the out-of-towners at the dances or it’s to get into tip-top shape for Mike and Laura’s classes, there’ll be a class for you. In addition, we have one our favoritist teachers and dancers, Mike “The Girl” Legett, in town to help us out.
Come out and hang out with friends! Go get a drink from the crazy dungeoness crab selling deli down the street from Take the Lead! Say goodbye to the Studio! Spend some time brushing up before this weekend! These are all good reasons to come out dancing, but none as good as the dancing itself.
Worried about parking near Rittenhouse Sq? Well, worry not! We have a parking deal with EZ Park at 40 S. 21st, 19103. It’s just a couple of blocks away from the Ethical Society Building.
On regular Tuesday LaB evenings: $6 evening parking with LaB validation, starting at 6PM until late. They’re open all night, so you should just keep dancing. Remember, if you drive, pay for parking, and carpool with at least one other paying person, you get in to for free.
On LaBLove Weekend (Jan. 9-11): $6 parking all night Friday after 6PM, $6 parking all day Saturday (incl. evening) starting at 11AM, and $6 parking all day Sunday starting at 11AM. All prices only valid with validation!
LAB is turning 2! We’ll be celebrating this glorious achievement in style, with LaBLove: a weekend of blues and Lindy workshops and dances at the Ethical Society Building on Rittenhouse Square.
All day Saturday and Sunday, we’ll have classes with Austin-based rockstar instructors Laura Glaess and Mike Roberts. Saturday classes will be all Lindy, and Sunday all blues. Classes are appropriate for beginner/intermediate level dancers and above (ask a LaBtech if you’re not sure).
On Friday, Saturday AND Sunday nights, there will be social dancing to local DJs, as well as live music from the Barbone Street Jazz Band and of course, a few special guests. ; )
We at LAB have finally conspired to bring you the workshop of your dreams. Skye Humphries (Ithaca/DC) and Frida Segerdahl (Stockholm, Sweden) are two of the best and most accomplished Lindy Hoppers alive today. If you don’t believe me, watch this:
Lucky for us, they’re also internationally hailed teachers. They’ll be in Philly for two full days, teaching one day of beginner/intermediate Lindy and one day of intermediate/advanced Lindy. Details and registration will up in the new year, so save the date and commence anticipation.
